McDonalds Revamps Online Presence

McDonalds, one of the world’s largest and most profitable fast food restaurant chains has announced a revamp of its digital strategy.

Let’s take a look at the importance of continually strengthening your digital presence, even if you are one of the world’s most successful companies!

As a result of declining sales to millenials, McDonalds revamps online presence with a series of digital propositions in order to modernise and strengthen its customer experience.

McD, the new McDonalds food-ordering and payment app, is already available in over 2,000 US restaurants and will soon be released in other markets. The app is designed to improve customer experience, allowing both iPhone and Android users to access special deals while in store.

Ex-Ticketmaster Executive, Julia Vander Ploeg has been added to the digital team in order to “advance McDonald’s efforts in the digital space.” The global brand is set to launch music and entertainment offerings, to further attract younger customers - in particular those under the age of 34.

If global retailers like McDonalds are addressing a digital revamp, what can smaller online businesses learn from this?

  • It’s important to consistently reassess your company’s digital strength.
  • Are you conducting a content audit?
  • Have you visited your website on numerous platforms? How does your site look on an ipad? How does it look on an Android device?
  • Are you using the right social media channels to connect with your audience?
  • Have you considered using a mobile app in order to provide your customers with additional information and exclusive deals?
  • Is your digital presence pulling users back to your product?
